Class description:  

General Skeet Class:  This class will consist of a mix of class-room (when available) and range time.  This class will begin on the range to assess the class's talent and from there the instructors will guide the class through a robust power point presentation on the mechanics of the game.  Once the mechanics have been covered the class will return to the range to use what they have learned.  After lunch the class will return to the classroom for a brief dive into the mental game of shooting.  At the conclusion of the powerpoint, the athletes will return to the range for a multitude of drills, games, and competitions.

Athletes will leave this class with: the basic understanding of skeet, better idea of the function of hold points and eye set point, how lead works, and, depending on class development, discovering how their mental game can improve their target shooting. 

Doubles class:  This class will take a deep dive into Doubles Skeet.  This will be a mix of classroom and range content. The athlete will be asked to participate in a interactive session of classroom power point and some medium to high volume shooting.  This class will cover the mechanics of doubles pertaining to: eye set point, hold point, break point, and eye transition as well as the importance of solid fundamentals. The development of the relationship of these items are what lead an athlete to be great at this discipline.  Once the mechanics are covered we will dive into the mental game of doubles and develop a proper shot routine to excel. Because of the nature and importance of timing in doubles, the shooter should be prepared to shoot a lot in this class.

Athletes will leave with a deeper understanding of doubles. They will be taught the special intricacies of doubles so that they can leave this session with the experience needed to become a championship doubles shooter. They will start to develop the relationship between hold point and break point for the importance of shooting rhythm and will learn in the classroom the importance of the eyes and how they work for shooting.  Depending on the skill of the class we will go deeper into the mental game pertaining to the subconscious and the stress of competition. The student athlete will be shooting better after having this class but doubles aren’t mastered in a day, so they will be sent home with the proper tools in their “proverbial tool box” to properly train and develop further.

Coaches are welcome to attend and watch/listen. Coaches are also welcome to take the course and will receive instruction on how to shoot but also how to coach, things to look for, and ways to communicate.

• Additional days may be added if courses fill.

• Athletes should bring 2 cases of ammunition (500 rounds).

• Out of state coaches are eligible to take course and pay an additional $125 the day of class.

Introduction to Sporting Clays (for Coaches & Student Athletes)

    Day 1: Coaches
    Day 2: Coach brings 2 student athletes
    Day 3: Coach can bring 2 new student athletes or athletes from previous day.

• This is a classroom and shooting clinic.  Bring your own firearm.

• Targets are provided by Iowa SCTP (bring a flat of shells, eye and ear protection).

• This clinic or workshop is specifically designed to empower your coaching staff.

• If the coaches have the tools to call shots and explain what they see their athletes are doing then they can be very helpful in enhancing that athletes game.  

• This comes not only from watching but from doing it themselves and feeling it. 

• Learning how to implement productive shooting drills to create coachable moments

• Understanding when and when not to "coach" 
  How to measure growth and the success of the team and the who make that team individuals 

• Gun Fit  -   Basics 

• How to organize as a team and support each other 

• Goal setting - how to measure 

• Identifying shooting styles and techniques used by athletes

Trapshooting 101

IMPORTANT: This is a classroom and shooting clinic. Targets are provided by Iowa SCTP (bring YOUR OWN firearm, flat of shells, eye and ear protection). 
Parents, if your student athlete is new to shooting sports, we request that you stay for the class to learn basics of trapshooting.

Trap Shooting for Beginners | Techniques, Tips & Rules: Gain confidence as a new trap shooter as you learn basic concepts, receive tips and understand rules that can enable you to relax and enjoy the sport!

**Each class is limited to 6 student athletes** This course is 4-hours long and the instructors will teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for trapshooting for beginners.  
Instructors Kolton Manning and Nicole Popp will instruct new student athletes in the game of trap; shooting fundamentals; shooting techniques, tips and rules.  

What to expect with Trap Shooting for Beginners

• Basics for learning the game with stance, holds, field considerations

• Overview of gun fit, posture, stance

• Natural point of aim

• Practice techniques
