TRAINING
The Iowa SCTP, Inc Board assists the state of Iowa by providing education for coaches and athletes.
A variety of coach and athlete trainings available, while clinicians and locations vary annually.

The annual Iowa SCTP coach conference is a method to network with peers, keep updated on the program, knowledge sharing and be the first to learn about upcoming clinics will help with your understanding of the games and ability to coach them. Not only does the Iowa SCTP, Inc set up clinics, they also help to offset a significant amount of the costs associated with these clinics.
The Basic Shotgun Coach Certification Program is designed for prospective coaches wishing to start or join a youth clay target or action shooting sports team as a coach or an adult volunteer. The intuitive, primarily online-based curriculum certifies coaches to work with beginning and novice athletes involved in the shotgun sports of American Trap, American Skeet, and Sporting Clays.
Basic Shotgun Coach Field Days (find an in person range day)
The course is designed to teach basic shotgun coaching techniques and team management fundamentals for leading youth trap, sporting clays and/or skeet teams.
Before registering for a Range Day, you must first complete the required online Basic Shotgun Coach Training at www.shootingsports-ed.com
Coaching Clinic
In 2023 there will be clinics with in the spring and fall with national coaches Hank Garvey and Paul Wojtaszek. Watch for details.
Doubles Trap Clinics
Doubles Clinics will help enhance coaches and student athletes in the skills of shooting doubles trap. Past clinics were conducted at Otter Creek Sportsman Club near Cedar Rapids and Warren County Ikes near Des Moines.

Specialized American Trap Clinics
Specialized instructors have been brought in by the Iowa SCTP to assist with coach and student athlete training to hone skills.
In 2022, Phil Kiner was brought in by the Iowa SCTP board for a Coach clinic and two athlete clinics on American Trap. The clinic was held at the Marshall Gun Club, north of Marshalltown.
SCTP registered coaches and athletes will be eligible for 50% reimbursement. Submit those requests to Chris VanGorp and the Iowa SCTP Treasurer will process.

International Skeet Clinics
Two clinics are conducted prior to the International Skeet Championships at New Pioneer Gun Club. The clinics are for athletes to attend, but coaches or parents are encouraged to watch.

International Bunker Trap Clinics
Two clinics will be held at AVAD Hunt Club near Coon Rapids, one for beginners in Bunker Trap, and one for athletes with some experience in Bunker Trap. Advanced athletes may sign up on Saturday, and the instructor will break the group into advanced and beginner squads. The cost for each clinic is $150. Lunch and targets are provided.
